First days

First day at work. Like a fish out of water. =.=

Taken an offer for a 6 months contract position as an Asst Digital Marketing Executive at Reader's Digest.

Considering the fact that it's a MNC and in the publishing/media industry and other factors... I took it.

I'm forgoing like 3 interviews this week. And the call from A STAR today!!!! Genome institute of Singapore?! Sian. A*STAR, Y U NO CALL ME EARLIER?!?

That was a Corporate Communications position though. Kinda different functions but... A*STAR?!

sian.

Just hope I get to learn value add skills here at Reader's Digest. Considerably good remuneration package, environment seemingly good too.

I thank God for his blessings.

Pls no gives me crazy load of work like Robsie's. Please....lol

While I was in the dilemma of taking contract offers of 6 mths from IMS health and Reader's Digest, both of which are MNCs, and waiting for the arrival of this week so I could attend 3 interviews for permanent positions in local companies, and also waiting for other companies to call. (Like A*STAR?!).

I guess I just went with the hunch of... I dunno. feels like God's arrangement somehow.

But A*STAR?!

Seriously, if I'd went on with Lifescience, I'd have to get a PhD to step foot into A*Star.

Latest

By God's grace, I've received 2 offers. Gonna reject one of them tmr...

3 more interviews, but I'm gonna have to give Cycle and Carriage a miss. Automobile industry is totally not my thing. Albeit a marketing executive role, I'm dubious as to whether I have to end up doing some sorta sales. :S What do I know about cars? None. I can't even drive one.

Praying for God's will to be done.

Then again, what is God's will?

Needs more entertainment

Just completed 2 seasons of Modern Family.

IT WAS AWESOME!!!

NEED TO HAVE MORE...

Why are there so many lame-ass people with bad grammar, bad spelling and lack of intellect giving absurd ideas, suggestions and comments on SGFORUMS?!

THE HORROR.

Please tell me those aren't Singaporeans.

Maybe if I blink my eyes fast enough, it might go away.

Sgforums is the bane of the Singaporean culture. Seriously. It needs to stop.

Damit. Why am I still reading it?

Coz I have no job and I need to feel better about myself. That's why.

UGH

Seriously, I need insurance agencies to stop calling me. I need banks to stop calling me. Those are not my thing.

UGH!

Why can't I just get companies (that I want to work in, with the right job opening) to call me for even an interview?

There's either something seriously wrong with my resume. Or something seriously wrong with my resume.

Or is it my picture...

Gatherings

Just received a facebook event invitation.

Title reads "6S gathering".

I'm gonna say "NO" to such gatherings simply coz it's meaningless and ostentatious.
We weren't particularly close in Primary school, neither did we really keep in touch in the years after. So what's with this after like 12 years?

=.=

Well, yea, part of my utter reluctance to turn up for such event may also be that we're gonna engage ourselves in those kinda small talks that puts me off.

Compare lives and feel better about themselves?

Nah, I haven't got a job now, so even if that then snotty, pimply plump boy who used to be ten placements behind me academically in class is now a tall, handsome banking manager would totally be a slap in my face.

After leaving primary school with a very average PSLE score, I went to a neighbourhood school my dad picked. Secondary school was a blur.I fared pretty well for the first 2 years, then came 'O' levels and I was only happy I did average. Again.
By God's grace, I thought I'd wanted to be a scientist and did Biotechnology for my diploma. I made a couple of friends whom I may put a tag on them that says "lifelong" and graduated with a less than satisfactory GPA score that didnt render me a placement in local universities.
Then came RMIT at SIM where I've decided Science is not my 'thang' and that doing a degree in Business should get me started.

=.=

I'm graduating with an average GPA score again. No thanks to modules like accounting and Econs.

Here's what my life has been at best- Average.

One thing I do know- I don't make average friends.

Those primary school friends are no longer friends. They're acquaintances.

Am I gonna spend my precious Tuesday evening with the lot of them for a couple hours comparing our lives and catching up on the years we've missed?

Hell no.

I'd rather honour my date with JeeCheng. At least we can connect on a deeper level rather than the superficial small talks I so despise.
Or just stay home, munching on chocolate cookies, hair in disarray, laughing to the likes of 'Modern Family' (THAT SHOW IS AWESOME).

Would my response be different should I be, say, a regional Marketing manager of a reputable MNC or some big shot years down the road?

Yea. I'd be sure to bring a Hermes Birkin, dressed in a Yves Saint Lauren power suit, strutting in with a pair of Prada pumps and flashing out my Louis Vuitton wallet where I'd produce a set of credit cards and hand one out to the waiter and graciously say to all of them "This one's on me".

lol.

Nah. Not a chance. It's still a no.

Like How superficial did u think I was?

Right? ROBSIE?

It's all very lovey-dovey and sweet-happy-family to see people flooding my Facebook newsfeed with pictures of their wedding photos and babies. Let me just add that the latter is on a daily basis. Literally.

Nice. But seriously, enough already.

We get that U had a nice wedding and your baby is oh-so-cute.

It's just too overwhelming by my standards. There is such a thing as 'too much', 'I've had enough', 'ok, I get it, stop it already'.

Call me jealous.
Maybe I am.
I think I am.

Then again, doesnt mean I'd do that in the future, U can count on that.

Oh. There's another group of people who irks me too. Those who's gone away on long holidays, soaking in the beautiful scenic view of Europe, eating all the good foods, doing all the exciting, unSingaporean things...
I'd be one of those next time. :D

That's if, I CAN ACTUALLY GET A JOB.

UGH.

Social Media

Social media as defined by Wikipedia: media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

Erm... Yes and No.

Social media is good for people who don't get to see each other often but detrimental to people who do. Coz it takes time away from real time interaction.

Before I had the chance to stay connected 24/7, that is, to own a smart phone with data plan, I found the use of smartphones highly annoying.

Since getting my hands on one (courtesy of Robin Chan as my bday gift. The HTC Desire S), I've been on it any chance I have.
So much so there came a time when my LoveChan regretted giving me a smartphone.
=.=

I'd set up my twitter account in 2007. I've only started tweeting like last week.

I find myself constantly checking facebook, twitter and whatever updates I have access to. Practically staying online like 3/4 of my day and that's CRAZY.

Seriously.

I'd like to attribute this sickening behaviour I so earnestly loathe before I had my smartphone to the mere novelty of having owned one.

It's only been 2 months.

And no, I don't think much of the games. Yes, no angry birds for me. I hate that game. it's not even fun. I'd rather play chess all day.
