I like watching people running for the bus.
From the moment I spot someone running; with the baggage knocking against his body as he runs, the hands flailing, the hair going wild, the look on his face all hopeful...
to the moment-- either he boards while panting, giving the bus driver a grateful nod or verbal appreciation, or he misses it totally and gives a look of bewilderment (or resentment), then retreating to a corner of the bus stop. Probably cussing the bus driver or himself.
Not that I'm mean (of course not!); it's just fun to watch people chase after a bus. Of course, I'd share that wee bit of victory with those who eventually caught up with the bus. And I could totally feel the exasperation of having the bus leaving when u're just centimetres away.
What's that phrase? "So near yet so far".
I do wonder, "What if the bus driver spots a person running but left anyway just coz he didnt like the way his arms flailed in the air or how slowly he was running just to teach him a lesson".
In any case, I think it's nice for fellow commuters to raise a hand to signal to the bus driver that there's someone close, running for it. Especially when the person is an elderly. Another way is to board the bus reaaaaaaally slowleeeee.
Or you could really just happily board the bus and watch the person's face fall as the driver pulls the bus away.
These days, running for buses is like the only exercise I ever do.
