Life's like that
The world does not stop for anyone.
No, not even God. Technically, He'd be the one to make it stop if the world stops, if ever.
So here we all are, back at work on a Monday, dragging ourselves out of bed, grabbing a quick bite before commuting to work, mumbling obligatory "Good mornings" while feigning the movement of our lips to make it somewhat a semblance of a smile...
And then somewhere else... someone makes a life decision to end his own life....
I remember working on a piece of report when I received the news.
Out of the corner of my monitor, I saw an email alert pop up stating my colleague, A's full name.
It didnt even occur to me in that split second that the email title was his full name and the sender was someone else.
I was still typing away on my report.
A colleague from 2 tables to my left popped up from his work station,
F: Kareen did you see the email about A?
Me: From A? Not yet!
F: No, it's ABOUT A..
Me: hm? What about A?
F: He passed away...
I jerked up from my seat and walked over to his desk.
Me: OH. MY. GOD he died?
I could not believe what I've just heard.
It seemed like a prank or some sort.
It was so because I've only just talked to him 2 weeks ago. We are not close colleagues, but I have worked with him on several occasions and we're always friendly terms. I might have made his patience run thin a few times before as I'm really bad with IT stuff and always had to seek his help on matters concerning the Cisco conference system...
A was a pleasant and warm person who was really helpful and took ownership of every project he had on hand.
As I read the official announcement by HR on his death which offered no explanation and that we should respect his family's privacy in the matter... I could only imagine if he'd suffered from a heart attack? Got into an accident?
I hurriedly went over to the other business unit's office to see if my other marketing colleagues know anything about this.
After some discussion, the information we got was that A took his own life that morning.
Question is-Why?
Is there anything that cannot be resolved that one should take his own life?
I feel sorry for his wife and two young children...
It's such a depressing and disturbing news.
People at work take a few minutes off and discuss about his death before moving on to their regular work. Perhaps a few people who actually know him let our thoughts linger on this piece of unfortunate news... but how would his family recover from this?
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I honestly don't know A well enough to have all that much emotion over his death. But I'm deeply disturbed and I still can't believe he's gone.
Just gone.
And work and life carries on.
My heart goes out to his family...
