Confessions of a bed linen thread count snob

Ever since Oprah Winfrey told the whole world about her amazing 1000 thread counts bed sheets, I've been fascinated with identifying thread counts of my (then) existing bed sheets, then seeking to acquire bed sheets with higher thread counts. heh.

And, No, I'm not part of Oprah's cult/"religion".

When I was younger, my mom's made a few sets of bed sheets for my sister and I. But there were only 2 designs- B&W Checkered Monochrome, and Pink Angels.
I still have 'em!

Being a kid, I didn't spare a thought if I'd slept on bed sheets. I'd sleep anywhere!

Thereafter, Cans and I just got hand-me-down bed sheets from our parents' double single beds (what I suspect to be like 250 thread counts).

Mom got me my first decent set of bed sheets at 400 thread counts- Off white base with embroided strawberries.

And that was after she learnt of my break-up with the then-bf.
=.=

Took me a heartbreak to get my first decent set of bed sheets!

I'd say that I had no idea why the set cloths would amount to that much, but I remember sleeping in them and wondering what a world of difference expensive bed sheets is!

Well, now, I've gradually developed a mental checklist when purchasing bed sheets:

1. Has to be a quilt set
2. Acceptable Design that brightens/complements my room
3. At least 450 thread counts
4. Within or slightly over budget allocated, depending on thread count.

I wouldn't say the higher the thread count, the better. It really depends on the material of the sheets as well and I guess, how the material has been processed. You could get 500 thread count sheets which would not be feeling as nice as one that is of 400 thread count.

I'm gonna have to save up to buy the most comfy bed sheets I can afford when and if I ever do get married!

Or I could just demand my future husband to buy excellent bed sheets as part of the dowry.

Who needs a roasted suckling pig? Really? That's just weird.

Ok. I've just Googled why is that so.
It seems that the suckling pig's symbolism include:
1.To show that the groom's family is very satisfied with the bride.
2.The bride proved to be a virgin

Heh.

I'm gonna be blunt and say that the suckling pig is totally redundant. And fattening.

And it's not like I've been to weddings whereby the bride is obviously no longer a virgin. Unless it's like another Miracle by the providence of God like the "immaculate conception". If u know what I mean...

I'd say, replace the pig with White 1000 thread count bed linens!
